How to get new salon clients: 8 channels that work in the Baltics

Short answer: start with the booking itself, then work the free channels before paying for ads: a complete Google Business Profile, a review request after every visit, Instagram with a booking link instead of "DM us", a referral code for friends, gift cards before holidays and employee benefit platforms. Local directories may charge for a listing, so check before you pay. Measure each channel by how many new clients come back for a second visit, not by how many arrive once.

First, make booking easy

Every channel below ends at the same moment: someone wants to book. If they have to call during working hours or wait for a reply to a message, part of them go to a competitor who lets them book at once, including in the evening. Before any campaign check four basics: one booking link where the client picks service, specialist and time without an account or an app; prices and durations visible before booking; automatic confirmation and reminder; a written cancellation policy.

1. Google Business Profile

Choose the most precise primary category, add opening hours including holiday changes, put the booking link on the profile, upload real photos (street entrance, rooms, work) and describe services in the words clients search with. A profile without fresh reviews rarely wins the map comparison.

2. Reviews after every visit

The best moment to ask is a few hours after the visit. In Tervita a review request by email or SMS is switched on in Communication settings, in the After the visit block. The client rates the visit with stars, and you can add your Google review link and choose after which ratings the client is invited to post on Google as well; by default only after five stars. Setup is described in the help article collecting client reviews. Reply to every review, including negative ones.

3. Instagram and Facebook

Instagram is your portfolio. Put the booking link in the bio and in stories, post free slots for this week, show prices or at least "from ... euros", and say where you are. If you pay for ads, measure them to the booking: Tervita's online booking can report to your own Google Analytics or Meta Pixel without sending client names or contacts, see booking analytics.

4. Referrals

A simple model: an existing client gives a friend a code, the friend gets a discount on the first visit, the referrer gets a bonus next time. In Tervita such a code is a promo code with a percentage or fixed discount, validity, usage limit and the Only for new customers flag checked at checkout. The referrer's bonus can be given as loyalty points. There is no separate referral programme with automatic referrer tracking, so note who recommended the client in the Source / Referral field on the client card.

5. Gift cards

A gift card is a new client brought by an existing one. Promote them three to four weeks before holidays, offer both an amount and a named service, state expiry and terms clearly, and treat the recipient as a new client when they come. In Tervita the salon issues and sells gift cards at the point of sale, by invoice or free of charge; clients cannot buy one on the online booking page. See gift cards and promo codes.

6. Employee benefit platforms

Many Baltic employers give staff a wellbeing budget through Stebby. If your salon is a Stebby partner, employees can spend that budget with you. Ask Stebby about partnership terms and fees. In Tervita's point of sale Stebby can be enabled as a payment method so those payments show up in reports.

7. Directories and marketplaces

Local business directories can add a little visibility (check whether a listing is free); use the same name, address and link as on Google. A booking marketplace is different: clients search salons there and see your competitors next to you. Tervita has no marketplace; your booking link leads only to your salon.

8. Win-back

A client who stopped coming half a year ago is cheaper to win back than a new one. Once a month list clients who have missed two or three of their usual intervals and write to them personally. Marketing messages go only to clients who agreed to receive them. In Tervita email and SMS campaigns, including automatic win-back, are enabled by invitation, decided per salon by the Tervita team. More in win back lapsed salon clients.

How to measure what works

Three numbers a month are enough: how many new clients came, from which channel, and how many booked again within 60 days. A channel that brings many clients who never return costs more than it looks.
